What this clinic is, and what it isn’t.

  • At the Forest City Metabolic Clinic, Dr. Nnaemeka Ukwuoma and our caring team are dedicated to helping you on your journey to a healthier life. We understand that managing weight can be challenging, and we're here to offer evidence-based medical support with warmth and understanding.

Our objective is to help you find your best weight by focusing on providing personalized medical interventions, which can include medication and bariatric surgery, all designed to help you effectively manage your weight and embrace a healthier lifestyle. However, these interventions are not always necessary.

We screen for comorbid medical problems. If there are other related comorbid medical problem (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia), we intend to ensure those are well controlled by treating them or making recommendations to your referring doctor.

    1. We do not treat eating disorders. If this is a concern, please ask your doctor to refer you to an eating disorders program. Such a program exists at LHSC if you’re from London.

    2. We will never have a goal weight for you. We will try to help you find your best weight.

    3. We don’t routinely do hormone testing.

    4. We do not see anyone under the age of 18 (pediatric) or nor do we follow you during pregnancy as this requires more specialized attention

    5. We do not do surgery. If the physician decides surgery may be best for you, it will be discussed with you, and you will be referred to the bariatric surgery program through the Ontario Bariatric Network.

FAQs

What is the cost of your program?

Physician visits are always OHIP covered and come at no cost to you. Dietitian, Psychotherapy and Kinesiology services are non-OHIP covered services, however are covered by most extended benefits. Refer to the services page for more information.

Please note that cost of medications prescribed are your responsibility. If you have benefits, they may be covered partially or in full though your insurance provider. If a medication is prescribed, call your insurance provider to see if they are covered.

How do I get an appointment?

For physician services, you need your doctor or nurse practitioner to send us a referral (see services section for referral form). For other services, no referral is needed, just call us! We will be offering online booking soon.

I need a form completed so that my benefits will cover my medications or services. What do I do?

We complete them for you. Submit them by email here. Form completions, unfortunately, are also not OHIP covered. There is a $50 fee.

I need refills, what do I do?

For medications we prescribe, just let us know. We typically get those done once a week (so we need some notice). We may need to speak with you to ensure that things are going well with your medications prior to refilling them.

Are receipts given for psychotherapy and dietitian services?

Yes they are. It will also include the name and registration number of the provider as it is needed by your benefits provider to reimburse you.

Do you do direct billing?

Not yet. In the future we will.
